Paper cutting

Post by Ericbludax » Thu Oct 18, 2012 7:38 am

Has anybody tried the laser cutters that are coming on the market?
According to the publicity they are being bought by schools, art colleges and the like.
The claim to be able to cut the outlines and score the folds. WOW! (if true)

I had a professional laser cutting service cut one of my patterns from rather thick paper (150 g/m²) and the result was really great! Very neat cutting of rather complicated star patterns, and the folding edges scored.

Funny that someone else just asked about this. See that and my reply here.

I don't have laser cutter, so maybe someone can tell me what would be needed from Stella's net-printing in order to make use of these devices.

For example, maybe it is just a matter of using a different colour for edges to be scored and edges to be cut, after which the colours can be mapped to different tools in the cutter. Can anyone confirm this? Does it matter what colours are used?

Thanks,
Rob.

They wanted a .cdr-file which I got by importing and elaborating into Corel Draw a pdf-print from stella's stellation diagram.
This is not that easy like it sounds because the pdf-print supports lots of unwanted patterns, groups and combinations of
elements not nessessary or even nonconstructive. But the final result is really great.
I believe exporting stella's nets in any vector format like .wmf or .eps or .cmx would be great for these devices.
