A few days ago I got the following question: I'm curious about materials and methods others use. I came across your website so I saw pictures of yours. One thing you must know after making models is that you have to take into consideration the thickness of the material you're using (where 2 edges me...

Yes, it seems that the same holds for 30A | A5xI / C2xI | mu9 and 30B | A5xI / C2xI | mu3 (the names link to VRML models for which a special player is required): http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg194/stellatum/A5xI_C2xI_30Amu9.png http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg194/stellatum/A5xI_C2xI_30Bmu...

Well, if by this you mean that one compound is obtained from the other by simultaneously rotating the four groups of three cubes about their common axes of symmetry through an angle pi/12, then you've got it Exclamation Aha!... Of course, that is completely logical and there are probably more such ...

C6_E_6.eg.off ... Mean anything to you? Sure, it was me who named all of them (but it was a while ago that I worked with this set and apparently I didn't have the last version on my site before) The names are derived from Verheyen's notation, with the difference that I move the amount to the end of...

Thanks for your feed back Rob! I put a new file with compounds of tetrahedra there with new versions of A5xI_C3_40.eg.off. and S4xI_D2C2_12.off. After I regenerated the zip file I noticed it contained 8 files more than before. I didn't check which files were extra. Btw the archive does not contain a...

that someone actually went to the trouble of calculating (apparently without the benefit of a computer) and building paper models of all the figures That is indeed amazing. The PC brought us many good things, but a part of the old fun is gone as well. As a student I found my first compound of twelv...

I considered squeezing layers together a long time ago, but I was a bit afraid that this would be too inaccurate, in case you don't keep your needle or knife straight. Do you experience problem with imprecision? How many layers (more or less) do you put together? Do you use a special stapler for hea...

At school I was already interested in geometry, but my introduction to polyhedra was when I visited the Science Museum in London in 1988. There they had a collection of all uniform polyhedra. I had no idea what these models actual represented, but was fascinated and hooked immediately. This was a ti...

Books about Polyhedra
Within this thread I thought it would be nice to gather a list of inspirational books about polyhedra. 1. My first book was Polyhedra Models by M. Wenninger. It is one of the books that I open most often and is quite worn out by now. Unfortunately the templates do not seem to have the correct x, y r...

Compounds of Cubes & Tetrahedra
I understand that it is not straightforward to create compounds in Stella (I don't use Stella myself, yet). Therefore I thought that Stella users might be interested in the fact that I have some archives with off files available: http://www.tunnissen.eu/polyh/TetrahedraCompounds.off.zip http://www.t...

Looks like the edges would all be about 0.5 cms long, is that right? The edges of the smallest octahedra are 0.6 cm. I am pretty happy with the result. You can feel a "fractal effect" when holding the model. Even though the model is built from normal paper, it feels as if it is made of balsa wood; ...

Material - I use the cardboard chromolux: 250 gsm. The advantage of this material is that the colours do not fade away so much. The disadvantage is that you're in trouble as soon as you spill a bit of glue: you cannot remove it without destroying the colour. Another disadvantage is that I cannot us...
