Sharpohedron

Hi Some time ago George Hart posted a polyhedron on Instagram and some time late, since he got some questions, he made a little video, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1tAv3cfmvI&authuser=0 I forwarded this to a friend of mine, Don Romano, who quickly built a model. Then he ...

Re: Built Models of Compound Polyhedra

I just finished a compound of 15 cubes. It took me 9 - 10 months to build it, though I had some breaks and intermezzos. The final model is 23 cm (~9″) in diameter, and the smallest pieces have an edge length of 1 mm. Here is a picture: https://i.postimg.cc/zHKwTT5y/Compound-15-cubes.jpg This particu...

Re: What are your favorite polyhedra?

Marcel, it's great that you used slightly reflective paper for that compound of two W117s. The reflections around the centre look great! .. And yes I also love the great rhombicuboctahedron. Your one looks very well made. Here's my one. Thanks, Robert! But also the pseudo great rhombicuboctahedron ...

Re: What are your favorite polyhedra?

I never thought about that. I must say I have to agree with Ulrich. I do like compounds a lot. Don't know why, but I just do. I finished the compound of 15 cubes one week ago and I am very satisfied with the result. I don't have a picture yet, since my wife will have to find the time to take one in ...

Re: Heptagons

If you tidy-facet the 24-vert Archimedean solids, with the "Must Be Spikey" requirement checked in the faceting menu, some of the closer-to-the-end results have duals made of isohedral heptagrams, classically starry-looking. Since I don't have any PC with Windows (I use Linux at work and at home. a...

Re: What's the most complex model you've ever made?

Thanks, Ulrich! You made a interesting observation! It is true that many models with folded regular heptagons that I made have that property: they consist of heptagons where two sides of one heptagon are glued together. I am not sure why that works well, but it might be related to the fact that you ...

Re: What's the most complex model you've ever made?

I see that I promised to update this discussion with a model I built. It is this one: https://i.postimg.cc/n9CWcJVd/nemesis-o5.jpg It doesn't consist of many faces, but it was hard to build. I failed once, many years ago. Then after some years I decided I should try again and then I thought more abo...

Re: Noble polyhedra. Where can I find them?

My paper about exploring noble polyhedra with Stella4D is now online at the Bridges Website: http://archive.bridgesmathart.org/2020/bridges2020-257.pdf Ulrich Pity the Corona caused the event to be cancelled. After years of skipping the event, I was planning to come this year. Congrats with your ar...

Re: A few pics

Beautiful work! I like compounds in general (currently I am building the rigid compound of 15 cubes). I really like the compound of the Small Stellated Dodecahedron and the 5 Tetrahedra. :D

There are people here who built all of them,.. (Not me, and I have no interest in that either)

Obviously some more variances exist and I am planning to construct a few more of them.
Here is another one that I built recently:

Re: Heptagons

For my next project I am thinking to build a compound of 15 cubes. http://tunnissen.eu/polyh/local_off.html?off_file=http://tunnissen.eu/polyh/CubeCompounds.off/15.A5xI.D2xI.off Don't want to make it big though, so it will be a challenge. I did start with that one; I constructed 1/12th, and it seem...

I don't know where you saw the "mu" variable.
That he must have picked up from me. For the compounds with rotational freedom I use the angle mu. I think I use the same Greek letter as in "Symmetry Orbits". For one of the compounds I used 6 | S4xI / C4xI | mu.
