all edges of equal length

Robert,

Is there a trick to trim all edges to the same length?

Re: large model

Unusual nice colouring!
If that‘s a normal cup, the edge length should be about 50 cm?

Re: Work in progress

This is stellation no. 14.

I think I'll finish it next year.

Re: A few pics

This is one of my favourite uniform polyhedra and I like your model very much.
I once made this shape too but only with three colours. That‘s not really satisfying.

Re: Work in progress

The diameter will be 396 mm. You‘re right, the pattern is based on the stellation diagram. A laser cutting machine works well and can accelerate the process a lot. I could gather some experience in the past. The results are very precise but a little „sterile“. And although it can be rather painful, ...

Re: New Torus

You should have a look at Alex Doskey‘s website. He studied Stewart’s book thoroughly and he has lots of such toroids:

Work in progress

This is the sixth stellation of my model of the great snub dodecicosidodecahedron, which is No. 115 in Magnus Wenninger‘s book „polyhedron models“. Nine further stellations are to come. The edge length will be 30 cm. There are 15 colours, 6 for the snub triangles, 5 for the icosahedral triangles and...

Ah, thanks! I tried ~6 but that could not work, as I know now.

Re: Nadia's Icosahedron

Thank you very much, I got it. And I found out how to construct the desired shape with stella: The half of the top angle of the pyramid on the top/Bottom face is 45° and the height is the same as the bottom edge. So I have to construct a frustum of that pyramid so that the top edges are the same as ...

Re: Nadia's Icosahedron

I‘m on my way, got the lateral hexagons regular. I made a model of these hexagons and triangles only which can be trimmed with the „try to make faces regular“ tool. Then I took the convex null and expanded the remaining triangles to kites. Now what is the trick to cut down the top and bottom vertices...

Re: Nadia's Icosahedron

Robert, Beautiful work! I tried to get it on my own but i could not make the hexagons regular. The best result gave the „create spring model“ tool. In the lateral hexagons there is a difference in the long diagonals of about 2% and the top/bottom hexagons are regular but have a different edge length...

Re: Flattening a face

If you want to augment a (modified) stellated dodecahedron with a tetrahedron, I think this is only possible with the great stellated dodecahedron where you cut off a piece of one spike. Then you have a new face formed like an equilateral triangle and you can augment it with a tetrahedron. http://i2...
