Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

I'm trying to figure out a way to find 120-vertex noble polyhedra with stella.
Does anyone have any smart ideas?

Re: Model of new noble polyhedron

Wow! I never saw this before. Very good job!

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

Put together a very nice list of .stel files for the known nobles and special compounds (i.e. doubled-up facets and uniforms)

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

In the meantime I found one more pair. It is derived from an augmented dodecahedron: https://i.postimg.cc/VJ4VbxL5/Faceted-Stellated-Dual-of-Augmented-Dodeca.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/sGF6ryKH/Faceted-Stellated-Dual-of-Augmented-Dodeca-dual.jpg Is that different from the pair in my OP post? I can't ...

.off files for these two compound pairs, plus two more pairs found from two nobles' hulls

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

The chiral pair @Ulrich discovered yields another special disphenoid compound in the same way.

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

Turns out the convex hull and general structure those last 4 share actually has a more unique and fascinating specimen I missed the first time - a special 30-disphenoid compound pair 30-disphenoid compounds have 120 faces and 120 vertices. It's very easy to double up the faces OR double up the verti...

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

@Ulrich I did the same thing with the excavated icosahedron, and found 2 more pairs. One pair looks almost identical to W115_02 and W115_02_d in your .pdf table. https://i.postimg.cc/t1Lkcjz6/new-noble-pair-new.png https://i.postimg.cc/YjwKGKwj/new-noble-pair-2-new.png .off files https://1drv.ms/u/s...

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

Amazing! I love the first one.

I had tried searching from an augmented icosahedron, but hadn't succeeded in finding any. I wonder if other isohedral deltahedra would also yield new results.

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

@Ulrich Ah, no. I'll clarify. I didn't facet sirsid's dual, or the dual's hull. I took the hull of sirsid, and faceted that hull's dual. I've now searched the large majority of uniform polyhedron hulls and noble polyhedron hulls for isogonal stellations of those hulls that facet into new noble polyh...

Re: Two new noble polyhedra - a new source of convex hulls to search from?

Four new ones I took an isohedral faceting of the dual of the small retrosnub icosicosidodecahedron's (aka sirsid)'s convex hull, and then isohedrally faceted the dual of that faceting, yielding a new noble polyhedron and its dual, and then faceted that noble dual, and got yet another pair. First pa...

Wonky how? Which one?
For example many (most?) of the duals of hemipolyhedron facets of the icosidodecahedron have faces I can't make sense of. I don't have access to stella at the moment to check

Re: Better rendering of infinite duals

Well, bizarrely, minutes after I posted this, I interacted with Skilling's Figure's dual for a few seconds and then it changed, and all the uniform infinite duals are properly far-extended now. I've never seen that before.

Better rendering of infinite duals

Here are two issues with how the duals of hemipolyhedra look in Stella: 1) They are usually cut off after a very short distance, often failing to show how the polyhedron would look in reality where it extends out further. I would recommend and an option to change how far out it extends, and maybe ev...
