Re: 4OFF debug information
Hi, yep just emailing is the way. Had a look at your file. First, when specifying the cell, you still need to include the number of edges on the second line, which can be zero because it's ignored, but since 4OFF expands on the original OFF format, the edge-count still has to be there. So first two ...

Re: 4OFF debug information
Hi, nope I'm afraid Stella won't give any further details. This error is happening when it's trying to group the faces into cells. You can optionally specify the cells too in the 4OFF which may help if there's any ambiguity. Looking at the code, the error is given if either of two conditions fails. ...

Re: i need help
It always shows nets of the base model or its dual. The Morph By Truncation view is showing a kind of preview. To convert what you see to become the new base model hit the left-and-down arrow button in the top right corner of the view you want to convert. Then you'll see the nets you want.

Re: Faceting Help
Hi David, To be honest, I'm far less likely to find time to put a video together. And if I made a video about the original shape you asked about, it still might not help you with other shapes like the new one you mentioned. Were you able to make the original shape? There's no specific answer for the...

Re: Selecting Issue
Even better: you can select an entity type in the Info panel to select the first entity of that type in the main window. You need to hit the "+" next to the line about number of cells, faces, edges or vertices, and then select one of the types underneath. No need for Ctrl+F. This will work as long a...

Re: Selecting Issue
One thing that might help is to be specific about what you want to select in 4D: Shift+Left-click: will select vertices, edges, or cells. But if you know what you want to select, one of the following may work better Shift+Right-click: select vertex Ctrl+Left-click: select face Ctrl+Right-click: sele...

Re: Selecting Issue
OK, a couple of things I found: It's not enough to use cylinders for edges, you also have to make sure the edges are displayed. If you don't display them at all, then it will always be using lines rather than cylinders for selection, which causes the issue Some other linework also causes the issue, ...

Re: Selecting Issue
I tested it myself on my high pixel density laptop, and I can replicate the issue in the current release of Stella. I can also confirm that it no longer happens in my development build. So should be fixed in next major release, but as before, that will still be a while. A workaround for now seems to...

Opening box in shape of small stellated dodecahedron
I finally released my debut album Eclectic Dystopia today, along with the single Deviate and its new music video. The video features a "mystical box" in the form of a small stellated dodecahedron I made from paper. Three lids open up, operated by fishing line, with an LED light inside. https://i.pos...

Re: Faceting Help
You should have the base view open on the left, and the Faceting Preview view on the right. Ctrl+Right-click on a face in the base view will add it as a facet in the Faceting Preview view. They should accumulate. Maybe you're using Ctrl+Left-click rather than Right click? That would just select the ...

Re: Faceting Help
Just Ctrl+Right-click on each triangle you want to add as a facet. Not sure what you mean about multi-select since you can already add as many as you want one by one. I guess it could be nice to be able to hold the mouse button down and drag across multiple triangles, which you can't do at the momen...

Re: Faceting Help
A dodecahedron and icosahedron are convex, so there's no other faces to avoid, but you could still draw whatever patterns you wanted on there. Will leave that as an exercise. You can kind of paint with the existing triangles instead, rather than drawing new larger polygons. Use Ctrl+Right-click on a...

Re: Faceting Help
At step 6, here's an image which shows what order I clicked on the points. You can start anywhere in the cycle, but this is one example. The reason for including points 4 and 11 is to break up long edge 3-5 which will meet with a short edge like 2-3, so that edges of the same length meet. We haven't...

Re: Faceting Help
You need a combination of techniques, including faceting, to create a model like that. These pages may have some relevant info: https://www.software3d.com/TopoSHI.php https://www.software3d.com/TuteSpherical.php For the image you include, the steps would be something like this: 1. I'm going to start...

Polyhedron models for music
Been distracted making music lately, but still finding ways to use paper polyhedra. Here's a heart-shaped polyhedron I made from paper using Stella4D, along with the spiky base below. Used these for a teaser video for my last single. Hmm, can't embed YouTube shorts, but here's the link and a screens...
